1) Firstly I cut the piece of wood into a strip about 6mm thick. I then traced round an existing paintbrush's handle onto the wood and cut out this shape , leaving a bit extra at the top.
2) Next I coated the brush in the tar paint to make it waterproof.
3) Then I cut open an aluminium can and cut it into a 4.5cm wide strip, I then folded over all the edges of the can to stop it being sharp (using the ruler to get neat lines).
4) I then cut 20 pieces of 4mm wide 5cm long rope.
5) Finally I glued one side of the paint brush to about 1cm of the aluminium strip, I then placed all of the rope on top of the strip added more glue the wrapped it all up, folding the ends of the strip together to give a neat edge before pressing down.

I made this paintbrush using sea waste I collected from Brighton beach and the Marina. It works surprisingly well as a paintbrush and I used it to paint my chalkboard.
